Many good things happen in life
but I guess none has for me in a long time. I try to stay positive in my
thinking most times but life just has its way on bringing one down. When good
things happen for some people around you, you can’t help but wonder if
something is wrong with you and you get jealous.
One day, I stepped out in search
of a job; with my unqualified CV trying to do get a job so I don’t starve.
Going to different companies and dropping my CV not minding if there was any
vacancy or not, it was hard but I kept at it.
I lived in a house where no one
cared if you lived or died, my father cared less of anyone but himself, his
believe was if it was better for him it would be for everyone around him so all
the attention should not be on the children but on him.I virtually lived from hand to
mouth even after I got my first job it all seemed to be going well at first but
all of a sudden the company couldn’t afford the over head so they downsized and
unfortunately I was affected.
Back to the streets again where I
met some of my friends that had the love for the music, One thing I found out
in all this struggle was that I was trying to find what my purpose in life and
were I fit in, which I knew if I found, I would be fulfilled.Hanging out with them was fun
most time because they were always happy in doing what they were doing
(passion), like I’ve never seen before. It was a lovely experience to share
with them.
They were like ten of them in the
group, three (3) musicians, three (3) Producers, one (1) Video Director and the
other there could play instruments and also dance. It was typically a record
label without a name.
One day, on my way to see my
friends an idea came to me (having all this talent without direction could be a
waste, if we don’t utilize what we have now.)
So I acted immediately to tell my friends about the idea I had for the
group to become a record label. They
were filled with joy because none of them actually taught they could use their
talents one day to do what they love doing and make money at the same time, which most times
could be actually fun.
So we started to make plans to
build the Record label, as the eleventh person in the group I became the
coordinator and manager of the label which none of them objected to.
We taxed ourselves enough to buy
some equipment to turn the house in which we hanged out into a studio.
Building the Studio together was
one of the best days of our life I must say, because we all had fun setting up
a better future for each other.
So then, we started music
production, the producers among us produced while the artist voiced over the
beats. While I was in charge of coordinating n making sure everything was in
place, sorted all individual paper works so the rest could focus on studio
sessions.
As time went by our label CFR
(Creative factor records) came out with a bang as it released 3 singles of our
artist simultaneously which all became hits and the talk of everyone. As we
grew with time, managing the brand of the label and also the artist as well as
every individual in the group was my focus because I wanted the best for
everyone which was what everyone got.
After a year passed by 2 of our
artist and a producer got very good endorsement deals which made our entertainment
company a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
One day we had a misunderstanding
in a office, one of the artist that didn’t get an endorsement deal said I was
acting as the boss of them all, who made me the oga sef, he said angrily. To
hear that statement from him I was heartbroken by his words. So the rest of the
group started to pick sides which I felt was wrong, I never felt a day would
come that we would have a quarrel that will lead to a division in the record
label. I never meant for that to happen so I decided to leave the company. I
packed my belongings in the office so I left the company.
Heartbroken as I was that I would
break up with my family over a trivial issue: I felt terrible. I Stayed days
indoors thinking of how I went wrong, what I did to have anyone in my family to
have taught so many wrong things about me.
After many days of staying
indoors, I finally decided to stop feeling bad and move on with my life. I went
back to the company to check on them one day and I found the same person who
said I did the family wrong was the one in charge, After seeing they were all
OK, I left. I felt relieved knowing they were all OK career wise, still doing
well so there was no need for me to come back.
Laying on my bed thinking of how
we all built the company together, I decide to build my own record label &
Entertainment company and import talent from outside since I had the skill of a
good manager and business man.
So I started by scouting for good
talent, that wasn’t hard to find, you just have to look in the right places. I
found two intelligent and passionate artists that I trained in character and
also in music. I also made a deal with a music producer to work with them and
in return I would help promote his work and sign him to my label which I did.
Months later one of my artist
leaked a studio session with his producer online which went viral, so fan who
didn’t know him stated to request for the song which we release official a week
later which became a huge hit, both artist collaborated to produce and album
which was got a award nomination. I felt happy to know that they were doing
well for them self, so 3 weeks later I made them tour the country as a means to
promote the which they did, All this was possible from the funds I saved up
from CFR.
Silver-line Entertainment as I
named it was beginning to attract a lot of attention even from my former company
CFR. My artist had much love for the music that they preferred sleeping in the
studio than their rooms.
Being like an elder brother to my
artist I taught them also how to manage money and fame which was very essential
to their careers. They appreciated all I taught them an put them into practice
immediately that yield fruit for them, They were termed as humble celebs in the
eyes for the public.
All this time spending with them
I never remembered the past events in CFR Until a day I received a call from
one of the producers telling me that they needed me to come back desperately,
he further said the artist in charge did know anything about business. The
company was currently in serious debt and they also had a new competition town
that was seriously getting ahead of them said my friend (CFR producer). I then
told him that I would get back to him, because I didn’t want to disappoint him
at the same time I didn’t want to shoot myself on the foot by going back to a
place where I was accused wrongly.
After I ended the call I went to
check on my artist whom I knew were working tirelessly on their new project (Individual
Albums). Looking at them while they were recording the kind of shiver I felt in
my spine I just knew I could never betray them even if I wanted to close down
sliver-line, it won’t be to go back to CFR.
The next day very early in the
morning I went to CFR to check on them but this time everywhere was a mess.
They were all sleeping when I came in so I went straight to see the artist who
took over from him only to find that he was overdosed on hard drugs. So I
shouted, when everyone rushed to the office seeing him on the floor we decided
to take him to the hospital. Few hours later the doctor came to tell us that he
was dead. He whole crew was saddened over his death after which they all
pleaded with me to return as the leader of the group which I refused and told
them about Silver-line, which was there competition that I newly built and I couldn’t
leave.
Later that day they came to visit
me at silver-line studios, when they saw my artist were younger yet more knowledgeable
about the industry and entertainment as a whole the pleaded with me to sign
with them all. I told them No but instead I will handle both CFR and
Silver-line, with the help of my assistant that would manage all their paper work
issues and report all necessary information that needed urgent attention of CFR
to me. They were all happy and relieved to hear to positive response from me.
In line with the agreement we had,
all the producers agreed to do a track, collaboration between both Companies. The
track immediately went to NO 1 in all radio stations in the country and on top online
music platforms. A video was later released to promote the track months later.
Both companies are being managed
by me, a non qualified business man. And the labels/Entertainment companies are
the most respected in the country. Sometimes i wonder if I had quite when my
first family bailed on me or I settled for a job in one of the banks, I wouldn’t
be where I am today.
With a positive mindset anything
can be achieved.
